Improving workflow tracking at a Kent based heavy industries manufacturer
What was the opportunity?
A Kent based manufacturer approached the KITC to help with its shop floor management. The company was using a paper based system to plan and track jobs as they pass through their workshop. Whilst this was broadly effective, it made it very difficult for the workshop management team to get a clear view of the progress of jobs, and made it difficult to diagnose and deal with problems as they occurred.
What did the KITC do?
We spent time at the factory, understanding the nature of their current process. From this we documented the requirements that a digital version of this process would need to do. We then researched and analysed a wide range of technology options which ranged from a free solution, to a premium, low-code bespoke platform. This was presented to our client's, giving them the context and the detail to make an informed choice.
What was the outcome?
The factory team were able to see the wide range of options available to them, with a clear framework for measuring their relative merits.
We left the team with a number of feasible actions they could take to get started on their digital journey immediately, and a clear roadmap for how they might develop their approach over time.
